Choosing A Marketing Consultant

Choosing A Marketing Consultant That Knows Your IndustryLet Us Help You In Choosing A Marketing Consultant

Choosing a marketing consultant is not so easy.  In fact many companies do not know what marketing consultancy is.

With so many marketing consultants around the UK, how do you choose the right one to work with?

So why use a sales consultant?

Marketing consultants are cropping up weekly, certainly as the recession kicks in, more people are either being made redundant or are deciding to go solo.  Ex marketing people that decide to offer their services directly.

A marketing consultancy is a marketing expert that can put a marketing strategy together based on your industry, products and market conditions.

Then facilitate the various marketing services to work in the campaign.  They would not do the marketing themselves (designing a website, designing brochures, conduct the PR campaign) just organise for you and be accountable.

There is a basic checklist that you can use to consider who is the right one to use.

If you are based in London, working with marketing consultants in London is advised.  If you are elsewhere, working with someone local is always advised.

Freelance or Agency?

When choosing a marketing consultant, which type do you select?  Do you want to work with a new marketing consultant, a freelancer that has recently started trading?

Do you want to work with an established marketing consultant that has worked in the industry for years, has a support team and a track record?

Experience

When choosing a marketing consultant, what industry experience do they have?  Does the agency (whatever the size) have experience in your industry?  Do they know your market and sector?

Do they know how your competitors work?  Why pay a marketing consultant to learn about these when you can work with one that has 5-10 years of experience?

Location

If you are paying good money to a marketing consultancy firm; you will want to meet with them.  By having that face to face contact, you can get a feel for their experience first hand.

It is harder for an agency to embellish on the phone or via e-mail.  However face to face it is harder to do so.  Also, having review meetings every month/couple of months to discuss their progress and look at ROI is wise.

Marketing companies tend to shy away from performance meetings, but it is in your interests.

Price

When choosing a marketing consultant, price is the all important factor.  There is no point finding the best marketing consultancy firm if they are charging 3-4 times more than you can afford.

Comparing prices via a price comparison website is the best way to check prices and compare to ensure that you are not paying over the odds. Based on the above factors, this should determine the right marketing consultant to work with.

Whether you choose a freelancer or agency, selecting the right one for your business is important.

Recommendations are the norm for finding marketing services, however just because a marketing consultant worked well for your friend does not mean they will work well for you.

Ensuring you work with someone local, that knows your industry and is priced well should give you the best chance of getting the best possible results.
