How Much Does A Website Cost

What Is The Cost Of A WebsiteHow Much Does A Website Cost?

The cost of building a website does vary depending on a wide number of things, which we will look into together.

This does depend on a number of factors (below); but if you would like to get a quote, then just fill in the form opposite.

Generally the thing that effects the cost of a website the most is the agency you select.

If you go with a freelancer, their running costs and profit margins are going to be much less than a top website designer in London.

At the lower end, a basic website could cost you around £500, at the other end, the cost could be over £10,000.

Certainly there is a big gap in-between these figures, which we can investigate below.

There are a number of factors that determine the cost of a website, like cars, there are different sorts and specs.

Website Platform

Every website is built on a web platform, a framework that is used by different web designers and developers such as WordPress or Joomla.

Not all web platforms are the same and not all website designers work on all platforms, some only work with one or two.

Getting advise from different web designers is wise as to which web platform your website should be built upon.

Number Of Pages

If you want a a basic website that only has 3-4 pages, then this would cost around £400.  If you want a web site that had 10,000 pages then this would cost significantly more.

The larger a website is, the more design work and planning is involved, and therefore the more it would cost.

Some businesses need a large website, Amazon for example needs lots of pages to showcase all it’s products.

A small beautician in Bath would not need a huge website, perhaps 10 pages and a blog.

Website Content

If you want the web designer to write all your website content, then this will take them time to research and create it for you.

If you can contribute to the website content (the text on each page) then this will do two things.  Firstly it will bring your costs down but also, your knowledge and passion for your product/service should comes across over a stranger talking about your business.

Design Work Involved

Many web sites these days use templates, so a designer would select the template, make some colour modifications and tweaks, and then launch it.

These sites are very cheap and quick to set up (there are also a number of free website systems that can offer the same thing to the novice).

We do advise getting a responsive website in the days of ever changing technology.

If you are looking for a bespoke website (that is not an ‘off the shelf design’) then there are tens of thousands of web designers that can help.

Each one will set their own fees based on the following:

  • Their experience (new designers/freelancers are quite cheap)
  • Their profit margins (all designers need cars, holidays etc.)
  • Their resources (if they have a design team and techie gadgets, they will charge more)

For this reason, website design prices vary massively.

Development Work

Web design and web development are two different things.

Your website may be off the shelf, or it may be more customised.

A web developer would get involved in the coding behind the scenes, to make certain pages load in a certain way or certain buttons to do specific things.

If you require something a little more bespoke, then this can push up the overall website design costs.

Animation Imagery And Videos

With the growth of technology, using Youtube clips, animation and videos on websites is common, and will raise the cost of the overall website.

Being found online is important, this is called SEO and is separate but a point to be considered when getting a site created.

Mobile Friendly

There are two types of website, responsive website and non-responsive websites.

These days search engines rank websites based on their mobile usability, how your website appears on the wide range of smartphones.

Since most of us use our mobiles to browse the internet, this decision was made years ago.

If you have a responsive website, then it will automatically adapt to the latest software updates on smartphones.

If you have a non-responsive website, then you website will need to be updated from time to time, which will involve a cost for the web designers time.

Marketing

Once your website is created, that is where the real work begins, getting people to it.

Some web designers can help with ongoing marketing such as PPC management and SEO work to get your website ranked.  Some web designers cannot support your with marketing so you may need to talk to a digital marketing company, again comparing quotes.

Shop Around For Quotes

As all creative web designers are profit making companies, it is necessary to shop around and compare quotes.

Have a look at their portfolio, chat to some of their current customers, if they are expensive can they justify their rates?

Are they local, can you meet them?

Do they have support services to offer?

Can they offer a mock up so you can see what their design flair is like?

Your options?  You can spend time on a search engines going through web design agencies one by one to find a few local agencies, then contact each and ask them to quote.  Or you can complete the form opposite and we will get you quotes today.
